There is a CSCS card type for everyone on a construction site; the job you do will determine the particular card you apply for. CSCS cards confirm you have the correct training and qualifications for the type of work you carry out. Both provide the equivalent of each other however the Level 1 in Health and Safety in a Construction Environment is a qualification in that it does not expire however the CITB One Day Health and Safety Awareness will provide you with a certificate that will expire in 5 years from the date of completion. The Level 1 award is provided by the British Safety Council whereas the one day awareness is provided by CITB.
The Level 1 certificates are delivered to our office within 5 workings days of test completion however the CITB One Day Awareness certificates take approximately 4 weeks to arrive.
A National Insurance number is not necessary as we have an admission policy which sets out the identification required to take a test with us. You will need to bring one of the following:
- A current original signed passport
- A current original signed UK photo driving licence.
If you do not have one of the above, you must bring TWO of the following (one from each list):
The CSCS test is available is many languages including French, German, Polish, Romanian and many more. There is also an English voiceover that can assist those who understand the English language but may have trouble reading English. Unfortunately the Level 1 in Health and Safety in a Construction Environment and the CITB One Day Health and Safety Awareness is only available in English.
The British Safety Council permit the following adjustments for the Level 1 Award in Health and Safety in a Construction Environment:
- Additional time – Extra time of up to 25% of the assessment time may be granted to learners.
- Reader – The assessment questions may be read to learners however as this must be carried out in a separate room, or at a separate time, to the main assessment, this must be discussed and organised in advance.
In order for us to allow such adjustments, medical evidence to prove dyslexia or other medical conditions must be supplied in advance.
At Wep-people we are strong believers that success is inevitable if you prepare adequately. We provide you with as much revision materials as possible including free mock tests in our office prior to the exam however it is the responsibility of the candidate to make the most of this. If the candidate fails the CSCS test, we offer a re-sit at a reduced price of £25 (+ VAT) however failure at Wep is rare and we try our best to ensure everyone leaves our test centre happy with their results.
When you book with us, whether it is online or by phone, we will provide the revision materials directly to your email in order for you to be able to revise before your test date. There are also other revision materials available such as the CITB official revision DVD-ROM however these are charged separately from the test price and can also be bought in shops such as WHSmith. Also remember that we provide you will free use of our laptops prior to the test to prepare by doing mock tests.
After completing the CSCS test, you will receive a score report immediately displaying your result. For the Level 1 award and the One day awareness, the awarding body will post us your certificates (5 working days for the Level 1 or 4 weeks for the CITB One Day Awareness) which the candidate can either pick up from the office (recommended) or have scanned via email with the original being posted to the candidate’s home address.
Once the certificate is received it will need to be emailed to CSCS direct after which the candidate can immediately call CSCS and proceed with payment and ordering of the specific card required. New CSCS cards are usually delivered within 2-3 working days. (See CSCS website for further details on the payment and ordering process)
Replacement CSCS cards can be ordered directly from CSCS for the full fee of £30. The replacement card is usually dispatched the next working day.
