The Core H&S Course is covered in one full day and provides the following benefits:
- It will allow delegates to progress onto sector-specific training with ease having understood the general principles of health and safety in the workplace.
- Provides the understanding of identifying hazards, assessing the risks and ultimately minimising accidents.
- It helps delegates understand the effects of inadequate health and safety procedures and practices on individuals and employers.
This course is theory-based and consists of one full day in a classroom environment. You will cover the following 6 core modules: 1- Organising for Safety This module covers the responsibilities put in place by law, of both employers and employees, risk assessments, hazards and their accompanying control methods and vulnerable workers.
2- The Workplace The focus of this module is safety specific to the workplace such as working at height, asbestos and in confined spaces. It considers what makes a place safe to work and how individual behaviours can impact the effectiveness of safety measures.
3- Tools, Plant and Machinery The equipment used in the workplace, powered and non-powered, can cause many risks, some of which are caused by the energy that is created during use. Delegates will learn about the risks associated with the various tools and machinery.
4- Health This module focuses on common factors affecting health in the workplace and includes hazardous substances, manual handling, hygiene and the effects of noise and stress.
5- Procedures Delegates will learn about the need for stringent procedures in the workplace and their benefits. This will include first-aid arrangements and local emergency procedures.
6- The Environment This will cover environmental requirements for employers and employees (both current and future), pollution and waste control, including safe storing and marking, and also emergency planning.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND
This course is suitable for people working, or planning to gain employment in, a variety of industries and sectors and does not require any previous qualifications to have been achieved. As it forms the first part of any SPA accredited 2-day course, those wanting to undertake further training for specific sector roles will benefit highly from this course.
A variety of assessments are undertaken throughout the day to ensure delegates are keeping up with the training. This is because here at Simpleducks, we feel strongly about ensuring candidates are not left behind for any reason. We also reinforce learning with relevant practical exercises where possible.
The full day and assessments need to be completed in order to successfully pass this course. At Simpleducks, we provide a letter of completion as confirmation that you have passed the course on the day of completion (this can be used as evidence for an exemption to day 1 of the 2-day SPA courses).
Safety Passport cards take 10 working days following completion of the course and are valid for 3 years. Approaching expiry, a 1-day refresher course can be taken but this must be done within the 9-month window (6 months prior to expiry and up to 3 months after expiry).
